KOMODO NATIONAL PARK











Komodo National Park is located in the province of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. This national park consists of three large islands of Komodo, Rinca, and Padar Island and several smaller islands. This national park land area of ​​603 km ² and the total area is 1817 km ². 

In 1980 the park was established to protect the Komodo dragon and its habitat. There are 277 species of animal that is a mix of animals that come from Asia and Australia, which consists of 32 species of mammals, 128 species of birds and 37 species of reptiles. Together with dragons, at least 25 species of land animals and birds including the protected animals, because their numbers are limited, or limited their deployment. 



Moreover, in this region there are also coral reefs. At least 253 species of reef-building corals are found there, with about 1,000 species of fish. The beauty of these reefs attract foreign tourists to swim or dive in these waters. 

Despite the seemingly sparse exterior of Komodo National Park,a wealth of interesting flora and fauna inhabit both the land and waters of the Park.  Komodo National Park has captured worldwide attention, not only as the home of the world’s largestlizard, the Komodo dragon, but also for the incredible marine diversity found in the rich, current-swept reefs and open water surrounding the Park.


Komodo National Park is located between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia. It was established in 1980, the park was also declared a World Heritage Site and A Man and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1986. Komodo National Park includes bothland and marine areas: The islands were declared a national park to protect the endangered Komodo dragons and their environment, as well as the biodiversity of the islands. The marine park was established to protect the high diversity of marine life in the waters surrounding the islands, some of the richest on the planet.


Komodo is a large creature with a giant lizard-like 2-3 m in length and weigh up to 165 kg, or 100 kg on an empty stomach. Although it looks scary, dragons are not animals are active hunters, they are predators who wait. In the wild, Komodo dragons usually hunt prey that is weak or has been injured. They only need one bite to paralyze their prey. After stalking its prey, sometimes for days, dragons will eat prey that was dying.
